Our Mission

Source material and social documentation are the building blocks of research, history writing, and public memory.

LEV’s mission s to collect and secure material that documents aspects of the civil rights movement in Norway. The long-term goal is to make the material and historical narratives available for educational purposes via the website and through collaborative exhibitions, school visits, and public events.

In dialogue with the community, LEV will consider donations to public heritage institutions, where material can be used for research, documentation, and educational purposes.

LEV will use the material to explore the interplay between history, daily life, and community narratives. Another goal is to facilitate dialogue will ABM institutions around themes of social justice and inclusive collections management.

By serving as a bridge between communities that create archival/documentary source material and public archival institutions in Norway, LEV aims to preserve and promote emic perspectives of source communities and their experiences of the civil rights movement in Norway.
